GOING FROM SOMEWHERE…TO SOMEWHERE ELSE, WITH MY LEXUS GX470 LOOKING FOR SOME ADVENTURE, NEW EXPERIENCES & GREAT FOOD.

I’ve always loved adventure! Any kind, especially something with some risk! I’ve always loved cars and driving too. For years I’ve been a bit intoxicated with Land Rovers…Series II, Defenders, Discovery, LR4, and of course the Range Rover. A few years back, at a Kentucky 3 Day Event, I drove a proper Range Rover on one of their ‘Experience’ courses. Who wouldn’t want one after that! Years later (and most recently) I drove on another off-road experience course at the LA Auto Show. Range Rovers are incredible machines! But…
A number of times I dove deep into looking to buy one, a used one…inevitably the same thing happened each time; they just don’t have the reliability that I’m comfortable with.
So I moved on…first to Toyota Land Cruisers, which are awesome beasts! But they are a bit hard to come by without need of lots of work and they typically command a high price. Then I looked into the 4Runner and FJ Cruiser, both great rigs that I spent a lot of time digging into and comparing and contrasting. This is what led me to the Lexus GX470.
What I found was that the GX470 has everything I was looking for, and they seemed to be a bit under-the-radar! I’ve always like the way they look from the rear; crisp, geometric, high, with great horizontal lines. The rest of the design is good, maybe not an aggressive nose, but it’s sophisticated.
When I got deeper into searching and exploring the GX470, I appreciated that they have world class off-road capabilitites, but with some nice touches of luxury…heated leather seats, Mark Levinson sound system, power everything, and early on they had navigation and hands-free phone capabilities.

I bought my GX470 in Phoenix AZ, then drove it home on a 3 day journey. It was perfect, no issues, no lights, nothing but a nice ride down the highways and interstates.
On my way home I drove through Moab Utah. What a spectacular place! This was my first experience in Moab and I just took in the beauty. Then I did some more digging and found that it was an off-roading mecca! That put me on another journey with my rig. More on that later.
